Commodore M Musa, (G), NPP, rcds, afwc, psc, BN joined Bangladesh Navy as an Officer Cadet on 27 Jan 1985. Thereafter, he underwent basic military training in Royal Malaysian Naval Academy, Malaysia and got commission in 1987 with distinction.
Cdre Musa has more than 34 years of naval career, which is emerged with outstanding professional and academic feats. He did Missile Officers Course from Dalian Naval Academy, China in 1992 and Gunnery Specialization Course from Surface Weapon & Operations School, Pakistan in 1995, where he topped and was awarded as the ‘Top Gun’ designation, which no other foreign officer could attain till date.
Cdre Musa did his Naval Staff Courses both from Defense Services Command & Staff College, Mirpur and French Naval War College in the year 1999 and 2001 respectively. He is also a graduate in Armed Forces War Course from National Defence College, Mirpur. The Cdre successfully completed Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) course from Royal College of Defence, England in 2014 and also passed MA in International Security and Strategy from the King’s College London. He has in his credit four Masters Degree, namely War Studies, English Literature, International Security and Strategic Studies and Business Administration respectively. Currently he is pursuing PhD in International Relations from a Public University, Dhaka.
In his illustrated career, Cdre Musa has served in various capacities and extents. He was an instructor at Bangladesh Naval Academy, Officer in Charge both at Gunnery School, BNS ISSA KHAN and Seamanship School, BNS SHAHEED MOAZZAM and Directing Staff (Navy) at National Defence College. He commanded six warships of different types, ranging from Patrol Craft to Frigate including the Flag Ship of Bangladesh Navy BNS BANGABANDHU. He also commanded the largest operational and Training Base of Bangladesh Navy - BNS ISSA KHAN.
His staff appointments include SO (Plans-I), SO (NA-II) and SO (NA-I) at NHQ. He also served as Director of Plans at Naval Headquarters. Notably, the Cdre has performed as Director General at Sena Kalyan Sangstha. He also served as Director at Energy and Mineral Resources Division (Blue Economy Cell) and contributed his diversify experience in national level development. In blue helmet he served in Ivory Coast for the United Nations as Military Observer in the year 2004 – 2005. Cdre Musa is currently appointed as Naval Administrative Authority Dhaka and Naval Secretary in addition at Naval Headquarters.
The Cdre has a good number of articles on different maritime issues published in different journals that include Armed Forces Day Journal. He is a fluent French speaker. He represented Bangladesh in UN at State Party Meeting on UNCLOS at UNHQ in 2013. He is a recipient of CNS Commendation (twice). He has been also awarded with Nou Parodorshita Padak (NPP) as recognition of excellent performance in Bangladesh Navy.
Cdre Musa is happily married and blessed with two sons. The Cdre takes keen interest in reading books/ chronicles and also has passion for contributing on National Security and Maritime Issues.
