BAF. Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) helicopter and fixed wing Aircraft may be
utilized to assist pollution response operation by spraying dispersant on the
             affected sea area.
Presently Bangladesh is very concerned about marine pollution as well as oil
spill pollution. A lot of initiatives have been taken in the recent past. A good
number of vessel, equipment, gears and other resources have been procured in
last few years. Manpower is continuously being trained to acquire technical
knowledge. Our ships are regularly participating in joint exercises /training with
neighboring countries to gather practical experience. Although there are still
areas of improvement that need to be taken care of. The National Marine
Pollution Management (NMPM) Draft Policy has been prepared by the
appropriate government authority which is pending approval. Efforts need to be
taken to conduct in-house exercises taking all concerned agencies together to
validate plans. More purpose built ships, capable to operate in all-weather need
to be purchased. Port authority, oil handling companies, oil importers and other
concerned agencies need to come up sincerely and prepare their own
contingency plan. BCG as the main coordinating body should lead this efforts by
supervising all such actions and render assistance as required.
             Command Control
There is no approved command control organization for pollution response
operation at present. However, a workable functional organization may be as
             follows:
