BCG. Recently Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) has procured 04 ships each
fitted with 200 m booms, skimmers and dispersant spray arms. They are also
fitted with tanks to collect sludge water. BCG has got 02x shore based
containment booms to assist operation from the shore too. Some of the crew of
BCG received IMO level III training from abroad. Moreover, regular training on
oil spill response operation is conducted at BCG Base Agrajatra. In addition the
officers and men serving onboard Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) are being
trained regularly to operate the gears. BCG is also in the process of procuring
portable oil spill response gears for conducting operation in confined space and
helicopter for spraying dispersant.

CPA. Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) is equipped with a good number of oil
pollution response vessels and equipment. They have as many as 1000m
containment booms, number of skimmers and sludge carrying tanks. The oil spill
response vessels of CPA are independent with onboard fixed skimmer. However,
the crews of those vessels need to be oriented with the response strategy and be
trained properly.
MPA. Mongla Port Authority (MPA) has recently procured a pollution response
ship that is used to keep the channel clean by collecting the waste and other
floating garbage. However, as the port activities are increasing day by day they
need to be equipped with more dedicated pollution response capabilities. Once
this vessel is procured the oil spill response capability of Mongla Port will be
enhanced further.
