(a) Start with the question that she/he finds most convenient;
(b) Keep count of time to not linger on a single question, rather try
to divide time equally for all; and
(c) Attempt all required questions – it is better to attempt all
questions with above average effort than most with good effort.
One must thus allow examiners to assess her/him for the
maximum extent possible.
e. Officers should prefer sea appointments so that she/he can complete
mandatory tenure required for each rank comfortably, and do that while
they are still young. It is usual to alternate between sea and shore
appointments. However, mandatory qualifications and time at sea matter
most for experience. Hence, one must try to maximise on sea time, as such
openings will diminish with her/him growing older.
f. Appointments inside the Navy (eg, ADC, Co-Ord Officer, Secy to Area
Commanders/Admin Authorities, etc) and outside the Navy (eg, SSF,
RAB, CG, ISSB, DGFI, etc) provide an out of the Navy work experience
to enrich an officer’s credentials but might not be so relevant at sea.
Hence, such appointments might not be for all, and might not be for more
than two tenure (ie, preferably two but not more than 4-years).
g. Above all, the Navy is all about sea. Hence, service at sea must always
be preferred. When an officer can no more be at sea, she/he might prefer
to be around the ships (like in Area HQs, dockyards, etc).
h. An officer should be always in positive competition firstly with
her/himself and then others around. If she/he presently runs 3km in 15
minutes, then she/he might train hard to do that in 14 or 13. Likewise, if
someone else does 3km in 15 minutes, she/he may train to excel that by
less than 15, but never do something so that others cannot.
j. The Navy is sure to take good care of its officers’ professional
development. However, if one finds her/himself left high and dry, that must
be brought to the attention of Naval Secretariat through appropriate channels.
Especially, one should not sit idle if she/he is yet to have any opportunity to
complete mandatory qualification and/or time at sea for any rank.
