This paper will focus briefly on the types, causes, effects and precautionary
measures to be taken in case of land slide in Bangladesh and conclude with
suggesting few mitigation efforts as remedial action.
Landslide
Slope of the earth is constantly changing as a result of mass-wasting.
Mass-wasting is down slope movement of earth’s material under the force of
gravity. There are several types of mass-wasting, of which landslide is one. Any
sudden and rapid down slope movement of bedrock, regolith or a mixture of
these two is commonly known as landslide. In other words, landslide is a sudden
movement of soil, weathered rock material or bedrock down the slope as a result
of pull of gravity. It is a phenomenon through which nature tries to re-establish
the steady-state condition or state of equilibrium. The constant pull of gravity

makes all hill slopes and high mountains susceptible to landslides.
