BN SACRIFICES IN PEACE KEEPING OPERATION

Bangladesh Navy personnel have been participating in UN peacekeeping mission since 1993. So far, 5090 Officers and Sailors have participated in 30 UN peacekeeping missions with utmost sincerity and devotion. To carry out the challenging and dangerous activities under distress many members of Bangladesh Navy have sacrificed their lives. Mentionable that, Ex Official Number 890192 Mohammad Nurul Islam, Leading Seaman was deployed in UN Peacekeeping Mission in Democratic Republic Congo under BANBAT-2 in August 2004. The sailor died during a routine Foot Patrol in general area (ENGOKI) 4-5 km Northwest of Kafe in Congo on 25 Feb 2005. The team was ambushed at 1015 hrs by Militia attack and Leading Seaman Nurul was brutally killed alogwith 08 Bangladeshi troops. Recognizing his supreme sacrifice, UN awarded him with DAG HAMMARSKJÖLD Medal and US$ 50,000/00 for his family. He was born on 05 Oct 1970 in Sheulobonia, Mongla, Baagerhat and was a qualified Navy Diver and demolition expert. He Joined Bangladesh Navy on 06 January 1989. Another Naval person Ex Personal Number 5095 Anowarul Islam Khan, Leading expired on 14 April 2013 on board Bangladesh Navy Ship OSMAN in UNIFIL (Lebanon). Ex Official Number 930479 Mohammad Jahangir Alam, Leading Seaman was deployed in UN Peacekeeping Mission in MINUSMA (Mali) as a contingent member of Bangladesh Riverine Unit-1. He died on 31 Oct 2014 at 0150 hrs. The sailor was born on 12 Oct 1975 in Fazilpur, Teghoria Bazar, Madargonj, Jamalpur. He Joined Bangladesh Navy on 10 July 1993.
