Commodore M Kamrul Hoque Chowdhury, (TAS), OSP, psc, BN
Commodore M Kamrul Hoque Chowdhury was commissioned in Bangladesh Navy in the Executive Branch on 1 January 1986. Commodore Kamrul attended basic Naval training in Bangladesh Naval Academy. He attended various professional courses both at home and abroad. The courses include International Principal Warfare course in UK, Anti Submarine Warfare course in INDIA, Peace Keeping Negotiation and Meditation course in CANADA and Defence Service Command and Staff Course from Mirpur, Banglsdesh.
During his illustrious journey to the Navy he commanded various types of ships including BNS SOMUDRA AVIJAN. Commodore Kamrul has a blend of shore appointments that include Staff duties at Armed Forces Division, OIC TAS School, Training Commander BNS ISSA KHAN, Principal Warfare and Doctrine Officer in School of Maritime Operations and Tactics (SMWT) and carried out the duties of Chief Staff Officer to Commander Chittagong Naval Area (COMCHIT). He was Director Welfare and Director Naval Training at Naval Headquarters. The officer commanded the Missile Base BNS ULKA and the largest Training Base BNS ISSA KHAN.
He also successfully carried out the duties of Principal Marine Fisheries Academy. He was also employed as a Logistics Specialist to UNDP for a project named “Comprehensive Disaster Management Formulation Mission” for Bangladesh. The officer has a vast experience on Disaster Management that include coordinating Relief and Rehabilitation activities during devastating cyclone in April 1991 and 1997, management and coordination of relief activities during the devastating Flood in 1988 from Prime Minister’s Relief and Disaster Management Cell. He consistently worked as a core member during the initial phase of Prime Minister’s ASRAYON project to rehabilitation homeless peoples.
Commodore Kamrul participated in UN Peacekeeping Mission in Western Sahara (MINURSO). For his commendable service to the Navy and the nation he was awarded a distinguish service medal OSAMANNO SHEBA PADAK (OSP).
Commodore Kamrul joined the present appointment on 16 March 2017. His last appointment was Director of Naval training in Naval Headquarters. He is from the district of Munsiganj. He is a graduate of National University and completed his Master in Defence studies from the same universities. He is married to Shahida Akhter and blessed with two sons. He is a passionate sportsman and is a keen Golfer and Tennis Player.
